There’s Just Something About Swaziland
Thought we would share this cool video with you all! Earlier this year, a group of NFL players visited the ministry in Swaziland where we are going to serve. One of the players says on this video “There’s just something about Swaziland!” That is so true! When I was there last year, I knew that I had to go back. Swaziland got under my skin and into my heart. The combination of beauty and pain; hope and desperation; LIFE and death…it just changed who I am. It literally wrecked my life, and I am forever grateful! I did not come home from Africa the same woman who left. My husband and children knew this immediately. Friends saw something changed in me. An awakening happened within my soul that could not be contained. God used it to transform and mobilize our family towards a new life, full of adventure and risk taking…not simply for adventure’s sake. Rather, for the cause of the Kingdom of God.
There’s just something about Swaziland. There is much darkness and poverty; both physical and spiritual; in Swaziland. But there is so much more. There is a remnant of hope and light in Swaziland. I saw it in so many of the orphans’ eyes and the widows deeply lined faces and timid smiles. I saw it in the face of a young man lying on his deathbed due to AIDS as we prayed over him and told him that Jesus came to save Him and was preparing a room in the Father’s house specifically for him. I saw it in the beauty of the land. I heard it in the whisper of the Spirit blowing in the hot, African breeze…”This is my place…These are my children…I have not forgotten Swaziland. Now that you’ve seen it, WHAT WILL YOU DO?”
There’s just something about Swaziland…enough to compel our family to lay down our own dreams for the future in order to work toward insuring a future for the children of Swaziland. A future that will only be secure when the Truth of the Gospel of Jesus Christ takes firm hold over this place and grows up through the next generations of Swazi people. A future that chases away the darkness that is dwelling there with a radiant and everlasting Light! This says nothing great about our family, rather, it points towards the greatness of the God we serve and in whose Holy heritage we are honored to follow. He goes before us, preparing the way. We carry His Light with us and in us, bearing the name of His adopted and redeemed sons and daughters.
