You know that phrase “empty nest”? It is a somewhat common phenomenon, at least in Western culture! Parents and/or caregivers experience conflicting feelings when a child leaves home to head out and make their own way in the world. One is excited and satisfied that their child is willing and able to grow towards independence; watching with anticipation as that child discovers God’s plan and purpose for their life. On the flip side, however, there are feelings of loss and sadness at the hole left behind by that child’s absence.
Well, these are some of the feelings being experienced among our ministry team in Nsoko these days! Two of our ministry partners have “left the nest” to attend Bible School at the Joy Mission. Mapile is taking classes to complete a three year diploma in youth ministry. Nombali is working towards a one year certificate in children’s ministry. They have already started their classes and are living in the dorms at Joy Mission, located partway between Nsoko and Manzini. The classes they are enrolled in include Bible Survey, Spiritual Growth, Organization and Administration, Spiritual Warfare, Holiness and Research Writing. We are so thrilled for both of these young people to have this opportunity to grow and develop in their spiritual talents and leadership. Both Mapile and Nombali have a deep love for the Lord and a growing desire to give their lives over to developing His Kingdom in Swaziland. Both of them have exhibited natural gifts in leading and teaching children and a passion to lead others into a deeper relationship with Jesus Christ. The training they will receive at Joy Mission will serve to enhance and broaden their ability to minister to and provide leadership within their communities in Swaziland and/or wherever the Lord may direct them. As Mapile says: “Within the short time I’ve been here, many people have been sent by God to tell me so much plans about His plans for me! Many of those prophecies were a lot about my place, my people and Nsoko…and will be my first step to what God is preparing me for!”
Of course, we also certainly feel the loss of having Mapile and Nombali serving alongside us at the Anchor Center in Nsoko and the surrounding community. Their bright personalities and their tireless efforts in serving the Lord contributed much to the ministry in and around Nsoko. However, as a team, we are so excited and encouraged by this awesome opportunity for our partners and we trust that the Lord will work in and through us to continue the work we are called to do. We look forward with eager anticipation and faith, trusting that God continues to raise up a new generation of leaders, mentors and disciples in Nsoko. We certainly hope and pray that Mapile and Nombali will feel called to return to Nsoko following their training at Joy Mission to serve, once again, with our team. Nombali’s own words say it best: “This is really great and I’m sure lot of people from Nsoko will benefit from it one day.” Above all, we pray that both of them will sense the Lord’s call on their lives and have the courage to boldly follow wherever He leads! Won’t you join us in that prayer?
Along with your prayers for Mapile and Nombali, won’t you also consider joining in the financial commitment of their education? There has been a scholarship put in place, thanks to some generous donors. At this time, approximately 75% of their initial costs to attend school are covered. There is still a shortfall of approximately $3000 (US) to cover school fees, books, room/board and personal expenses for their entire time at Joy Mission. We know that many of you have met and worked alongside Nombali and/or Mapile in your time serving in Swaziland. You understand the blessings and gifts that these two young people exude from their lives! They are powerful tools for the Kingdom! Won’t you ask the Lord how you might join in the JOY of supporting Nombali and Mapile as they seek God’s direction and call on their lives? Help us give them wings…help us grow the Kingdom!
“Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” ~ Isaiah 40:30-31
