I can’t say enough about the new book Radical:Taking Back Your Faith From The American Dream by David Platt. I wish I could buy a copy for every person I know…seriously! It is that good. The only people who should not read it are the following:
*people who value comfort and security above all else
*people who picture Jesus as an all american, middle-class, nice guy
*people who think “political correctness” is part of the gospel
*people whose first response is “what’s in it for me?” at least 75% of the time
*people who think prayer is a good last resort
*people who believe miracles only happened in “Bible times”
*people who think the good life has anything to do with their bank statement
*people who believe only certain people are called to “go and make disciples”
Wait a minute…maybe that is exactly who should read it! My hope is that you will watch this video clip. That will probably result in one of two things:
a. you will feel so troubled and uncomfortable by the contents of the clip that you have no desire whatsoever to read a book like that!
OR
b. you will feel so troubled and uncomfortable by the contents of the clip that you feel you must get your hands on and read a book like that!
Either way…read this book!! I would love to get an online discussion going with people on this stuff! If you would like to be a part of that, let me know!
Consider this quote from the book:
“Radical obedience to Christ is not easy; it is dangerous. It is not smooth sailing aboard a luxury liner; it is sacrificial duty aboard a troop carrier. It’s not comfort, not health, not wealth, and not prosperity in this world. Radical obedience to Christ risks losing all these things. But in the end, such risk finds its reward in Christ. And He is more than enough for us.”
Is He really??
Ok, you convinced me! It looks like a great book!
Sounds like a good book to read. I have been challenged by Rolland and Heidi Bakers’ book “Always Enough.”
